This booklet just cracks me up. There are a couple nice berets that would still be wearable, but I found these offerings so much more ... je ne sais quoi.
I wonder if the model has a bowling ball hidden under that bowler?
Peak of fashion. I think it's supposed to be a pun. Who remembers the Coneheads on SNL? or maybe these women are getting ready for a date with Zippy?

Thing is, I get the feeling those hats were pretty form fitting to the high hairdos!
I have some vintage books too and it's really fun to take a trip down memory lane. Can you imagine? 50 Cents for a pattern book? I remember the Coneheads well, they're the nice family from France.
Is that model with the bowler even WEARING the hat? It looks "photoshopped" in.
Last month at my local SnB, Drew Emborsky (The Crochet Dude, coauthor of Men Who Knit & the Dogs Who Love Them) had a couple of hats that he had designed for some yarn company. The hats were pointy, just like that peak of fashion hat. He said that the yarn company WANTED that look. And he said that similar shaped hats were in the winter collections of several fashion designers. So yes--it's the peak of fashion again. I guess. Still looks cone-heady to me.
Awesome.
A friend of Nate's, well we ran into his wife the other day at the ski area. (note, ski area).
She was wearing...
Get this.
A pink, angora...
Baseball hat!
Where does one buy such a thing? And how is that even workable for skiing?
Bad hats of the world surely make me wonder.
"je ne sais bowling ball"! Loved it! Thanks for the biggest grin of the day. Just confirms me in my "I meant to do that" approach to hats. Top looks odd? It's a design feature.
Wow. Coneheads and bowlers. And things with pom-poms on top. That's soooo bad!
Those are absolutely fabulous! Glad to see some vintage patterns on your site! I really want to make the one that looks like a large angora Jell-O mold.
