New IK Arrived...

There's probably a special place in hell for those of us who do things like this to magazine pics, but hey, I'm willing to risk it.

There's not much a I truly love in this issue, but I usually feel that way about summer issues, so no surprise. Fall and Winter are really my seasons.

But I do LOVE LOVE LOVE Kate Gilbert's Syncopated Caps. There are a few other things I might like if I was young and thin. Or had a more femme sensibility. Those are projects like Shirley Paden's lace top that I admire as knitting but know I'd never make something like it, unless it was a gift for someone very near and dear to me.

I do think that they listened to input from readers about the new layout. Yes, the instructions are still at the back, but they now include the designer's name and a little blurb near the big photo.

Oh, and that short little white sweater? It would be cute if it was long enough. Or even if they styled it over a little black dress and the model wasn't acting like she wondered who shrunk her sweater in the wash.

I do like the shorter length. But, it seems to me the sleeves are too loose and that why the line is "off."

Short sweaters just always look "short" to me. I really don't know much about fashion, but I know what I like, and I totally cracked up at the edit you made to the photo. I don't even subscribe to IK, because my real appreciation is typically only for the fall and winter issues, so if I see some things I like in the magazine, I buy it, but otherwise, I pass it by.... There are still two or three sweaters from IK fall 2006 issue which I'd love to make.....

Snork! I love your changes to the picture. :)

I like them teeney and toasty.

Yes, they did finally start putting the designer names with the first pictures of the patterns.

Honestly I loved IK because of the old format. Ah well. Maybe it's time for me to change too and find a new mag to subscribe too. But I'll probably just keep checking out old back issues of Vogue Knits from the library.

I have to say I agree with you. Summer issues NEVER inspire me, and this issue is no different. Kate Gilbert's hat is pretty neat though, and I will probably end up making it.

and maybe if she washed her hair, too. the whole styling of the pic isn't very good.

I thought the same thing when I saw that sweater. LOL The only pattern I want to knit in this issue is the hats, too.

I thought the exact same thing, and I totally laughed at that pic. :-)

I like the sweater on the cover (with a few modifications, of course--it's an illness). I loved the hats.

I told my husband the exact same thing. That photo just begs for a comment like that!

I didn't see anything that I really wanted to knit, which was a little disappointing now that I live someplace that doesn't really get cold enough for warm and wooly knits. I liked the lace sweater - they're oddly practical here, but the high neck was a no-starter for me.

Heh. Cropped cardis can be cute if you wear them the right way I think, but that one is not really doing it for me.
I liked the Nora Gaughan free-on-the-web pattern in two orange yarns best of them all. The Kate Gilbert hats are cool also... but I really love the Zimmerman cable sweaters the best of this issue. Great, even among her many great cable patterns.

The Zimmerman sweaters are my favorites, too. Not just because the picture of the elderly couple is so darn sweet, but that certainly added to the appeal.

That sweater looks like a gauge insident/accident.

But I think it would look a lot better if it had a longer body and sleeves, and some waist shaping.

Looks like she ran out of yarn to me. ;-)

It bugs me when I see models yanking down on a sweater or holding it down forcibly. It screams "too short" and "curling" to me. Very funny.
