Birds in My Yard

Taking good, crisp pictures of birds in the wild requires way more specialized equipment than I have. But these two caught my attention while I was basking in the sun on the porch, enjoying the peace, and doing sudokus.

Wow. I'm impressed...! Is that first one a woodpecker?

I love cardinals! I don't see very many of them around here. But then, I don't see a variety of birds here at all. Stupid big city.

We had a bird very similar to the first one in our yard a couple of days ago. I think it might be the same kind..... It was definitely a woodpecker in our yard, as it was pecking at the wood on a tree quite diligently. I looked in our bird book, and my four year old and I decided it was a yellow bellied sap sucker, though as a bird watcher, I'm quite a novice, so not sure if that's correct.....

Yes, the top guy is a woodpecker, but I don't know exactly what kind. He was pretty high up in that tree, so I didn't get a very good look.

That's a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker! Really, such a bird exists; it's a type of woodpecker. Nice photos!
