Knitting For Fun!

Last year I found this delightful book at St. Vincent's. I can't imagine why anyone donated such a classic. It was published by Octopus Books in London in 1973.

Let's have a closer look at the model's expression:

I can't decide if she's suffering from severe depression or maybe went off her anti-anxiety meds, or maybe, she's hallucinating about giant day-glow petrochemical afghans devouring her in her sleep. Mostly, I think she caught a glimpse of the rest of the outfits for the shoot. See:

Even David Soul (spelling?) of Starsky & Hutch fame isn't safe:

OR maybe that's just his evil twin.

In all fairness, this book did have a few blandly innocuous patterns. But it wouldn't be much fun to show you those!

Hot damn! I'm not sure what I want to knit more--that checkered loincloth thing or those shorty shorts. Hm, maybe both so when I bend down the loincloth will expose my shorty shorts. But of course I need those platform roman sandals to top the whole number off.

Oh YEAH. Those are awesome. I like the argyle King Arthur getup the surly chick is wearing.

I was just thinking that she must have just realized how not-fun the knitting was in the book.

But I have to confess that vest of hers is nice. I'd wear that in a pinch.

I had to hide behind the sofa to look at those pictures. All those horrible memories of my childhood and some of the stuff my Mum and Aunites knit came flooding back.

She looks terrified, as well she should be! Also, the title is puzzling. Knitting for fun. Why else would I knit? Because I'm employed in some knitting sweatshop, with a big, burly guy standing over me to make sure I don't drop any stitches?
Or is it sadistic fun, of the 'heh, I'm going to knit this atrocity, and you're going to wear it!' kind?
This is so confusing.

Nothing says "camel toe" like knit short-shorts.

I'd like to see what's in the "knitting not for fun" book.

Actually the title today should be "Fun for knitting" :))

I like the surly one's pinafore, too. It should be worn with bi-color tights and accessorized with one of those really long trumpets. Or maybe she escaped from a deck of cards. Clearly, she is the one-eyed jack. The ripple vest, the afghan, definitely from my yout.
