Recent Spinning...Sort of

In the past couple weeks I've been plugging away at a couple of longer-term spinning projects. The Mossy Merino/Yak blend on the left is more than half of the total I'll do of that. I have about 60 grams left of the the carded blended fiber, which should go pretty quickly. I'm too lazy to count yardage, but it's about a fingering weight 2 ply.

The brown on the right is the first of what will eventually be a sweater-quantity of 3 ply sport weight. This is from natural brown merino/romney crossbreed. I had most of a bobbin of singles sitting around for several months and finally made some more to at least get that plied.

More views of the same:

My plan is to finish up the mossy merino, then go back and finish a batch of Shetland/Alpaca blend I bought at Wisconsin Sheep and Wool in the fall. That's another 3 ply, kind of DKish and I have about 8 more oz to get through of a 1 lb bag. Then, when all that is done and my bobbins are empty, I'll resume plugging away at the merino/romney cross batch, since that's kind of a lifetime commitment. Or, feels like it at this point.

I really like that moss color.

Just beautiful! I'll have to pump you for information on plying in threes at next Saturday knitting as I nearly decapitated myself trying Navaho plying! Think I'm doing it wrong? :-)

Yummers. I like the moss color, too. Actually, I like the two colors together really well.

Hear hear! I love those colors too, and although I am *slightly* tempted to spin, I believe I'm content to be your Admiring Public. And I AM admiring....

I have some blue washable wool that is starting to feel like a lifetime commitment as well. Honestly, the more I spin, the more seems to be left in the bag. I might be able to finish up a bunch of undyed today that is destined to be dyed, though. I have to make a dent in it before NH Sheep and Wool!

I love how even you get yours! So pretty!

Mmmmm - pretty pretty yarn! I love the mossy - yak, eh? And your merino/romney cross three ply looks a lot like my cormo cross three ply brown wool that I started spinnning two years ago and am just know knitting up into a vest for my man.

That's a lotta yarn you got going on - I know the bottomless bag feeling. Luckily, that brown wool does have a bottomless bag because I fear I'll have to spin up a bit more to finsh the vest...

Those are both gorgeous. I love that "mossy" color; does it have small specks of brown in it? They both look really soft.

Gorgeous!

I love the Mossy too.

And well, you don't have to ONLY spin the merino/romney you know, you could throw in some fun stuff in between bobbins here and there...

Pretty, pretty. I love the way they look together, and they're so even. Sometimes you spin and spin and it just keeps on going. . . still, it's inspiring stuff.
