Something I Noticed... And a Contest!

BEstofIK
I got The Best of Interweave Knits from our public library system. There are a lot of wonderful patterns in there, which isn't too surprising. But I did notice a funny thing about this book.

How many of you remember the cute red headed model who worked for IK for years? Quite often, she was the one chosen to model the most dubious designs that made it into the magazine. Further, the items they put her in were often not well-suited to her build. I miss seeing her in IK these days. The funny thing I noticed is that she does not appear once in this book! Which goes to show that of the 25 or so patterns deemed by the editors to be the best from the first decade, not once was it one that she got to model. I wonder if the editors were to choose the 25 worst patterns from the first decade of IK, how many she would be wearing?

And one more thing I noticed. The model on the cover of the book is also quite familiar to regular readers of IK. She's a lovely, lithe young woman with a dancer's poise. She's also the daughter of the former editor, Pam Allen. Over the years, she has very rarely been posed in unflattering designs. She appears in this book more than any other model.

I'm just wondering...

The Contest
I just realized my sitemeter is fast approaching 100K! If you are the lucky 100,000th visitor to my blog, take a screen shot and email it to me at elizabethmorriso (at) gmail (dot) com. That's right: no final "n" on my last name. My site meter is at the very bottom of the page, so scroll on down. If you don't know how to take a screen shot, just email me and let me know. I'll know if you cheat if I get more than one claimant.

I'll think about a prize and post that tomorrow, after I rummage in the stash. Maybe I'll come up with a few items and give you the choice.

At my current rate of visitors, the 100,000th hit should be in three or four days.

Interesting about the IK models! I had no idea!

oooOOOOOoooh! I never would have guessed it, as that model is very lovely indeed. That might also explain why we haven't seen her in a while. I've also noticed a young woman with Down syndrome modeling a few things things that are typically in the staff projects section; I wondered if she might be someone's daughter as well. I like seeing different kinds of models.

As for the redheaded one, my friends and I have always referred to her as the Red-Headed Stepchild. Poor thing! She's so pretty, but my LORD, she gets the fugly stuff.

Since we haven't had the chance to get the previous IK mags out in my corner of the world, I can only imagine the fashions that she might have had to have worn! LOL

Oh yes, and congratulations on your milestone!

Oooh, oooh, forget IK. I'm loving the sweater the book is resting on! No redheaded model for that one.

Now that's an interesting observation. Seems to be all in the family. Here's to 100K! Wow!

I had noticed that Pam Allen's daughter was all over that book but I hadn't noticed that everyone's favorite redhead was missing. (Of course, I've only flipped through the book twice so there wasn't too much studying of the photos.)

That is interesting. I always liked the redhead the best. I noticed her. The others, could have been on a mannequin for all I knew.

How do you notice such things? Honestly...

Oh I see! (See, that's what happens when you catch up on blogs backwards.)

That's true. They always put the fug on the redhead. Poor girl. Wonder what she's up to now.

She modeled a particular piece of fugliness within the past year or two that I can't get out of my mind. It was a long tunic with a very large holed design. It was probably her last straw. Hopefully, she is doing something more fun now.

And let me add about Sloane that the cable is just a-poppin aplenty. What's the yarn? It looks like Brown Sheep's Cotton Fleece in Prosperous Plum to me, but I don't suppose you much care for cotton.

It takes a subtle mind to come up with this!

I long ago gave all the repeat models in IK names. The cover-girl diva who is Pam Allen's daughter was Claire. The super cute short haired model was Pepper (she was my fave, and I always liked her sweaters the best too). The red haired model was Sasha. The slightly older model with chin length dark hair who used to be in a lot was Madeleine. The Latina woman was Marlena. Yes, this habit may put me in the crazy cat lady classification once and for all.

Was the red haired girl in Scarf Style/ Wrap Style/ etc at all?? She really was getting the short end of the stick over there. She could sell a tell all book of the seamy underside of IK photo shoots....
