Gingerbread Tam

I just made one of the Three Tams by Angela Sixian Wu, from the Winter '07 Knitty. This was a quick fun knit and completely up my alley.

Gingerbread Tam 3
This is the expression of a woman standing in her front yard when it's 14 degrees F, with no coat or gloves, in shoes but not insulated boots, fiddling with a camera and wondering if the autotimer will work.

Gingerbread Tam 2
The back view. Notice all the snow? This is not typical this early in Wisconsin.

Gingerbread Tam 1
The detail.

I used some ancient brown worsted wt wool yarn I picked up at a thrift shop and Knit Picks Bare that Shelagh gave me when we met in NH in summer '06. The kids and I dyed it with Wilton's paste and koolaid. I think the hat looks like a gingerbread house or some other brown confection sprinkled with colorful candy bits. Yum.

The brown sets off the lovely pinks, etc., beautifully! I am inordinately fond of that kind of ribbing -- it looks great here!

You're right - it totally looks like gingerbread.

It's lovely. I'm more intrigued by that pattern the more I see it, and yours isn't helping me resist. :)

I think I'm more jealous you can pull off a tam! Very nice and gingerbready!

Love the tam... it really does look like a gingerbread house!

I had to giggle at your expression... if that's not the look of a woman who's cold and slightly disgruntled I don't know what is :-)

Gorgeous! I had not noticed that that pattern is so nice until now. And I wish we had snow too, we just have a thick-ish layer of frost.

(And thanks for your comment on the socks. They are done now and my cousin knows they will arrive late!)

Charming! I wish I looked that good in a tam - I never look disgruntled in a sophisticated sort of way, I just look silly, in a rabbit in the headlights sort of way.

Very cool. I like the hat immensely, and your expression cracked me up.

I'd rather have snow than the weather we're having - it keeps swinging wildly over a 50 degree range. Not great for preventing colds.

You wear the tam very well, my dear. Not to mention that it is lovely. (chewing arm off in frustration at not being patient enough for Fair Isle...) :-)
